Hi, I’m Brian Wildman. Thank you for visiting.
If you're new to me, I write epic fantasy involving rich characters and deep worlds. To get an idea of who I am and what inspired my writing style, I grew up reading The Hardy Boys, then devoured Michael Crichton and Tom Clancy before discovering epic fantasy authors like Robert Jordan, Steven Erikson, and Brandon Sanderson. I spent some years in the military, then got a degree in Computer Science, and for nearly twenty years I’ve worked as a software engineer.
Today I live in Washington State with my wife, our daughter, and two rabbits. When I’m not mapping out grand worlds, compelling characters, and thrilling conflicts, I’m with my family, playing guitar, or tackling house projects.
Why I Write
I write epic fantasy because I love my characters, I love my worlds and I love big heroic moments where everything comes together and blows readers away. Also, I want readers who are weary of grim, morally dark fantasy to find something hopeful, compelling, and richly imagined. My aim is to show things like sacrifice, loss and hard choices—but also righteousness, courage and redemption. When you put my books down, I want you to feel the weight of the journey, but also feel uplifted and inspired.
On Faith
My Christian values shape how I see the world and how I write, but I want my books to work for anyone, whether you share my faith or not. The moral center of my stories is firm enough that readers of faith can read without worry, and universal enough that everyone can engage with the conflict, the characters, the wonder. There will be battles and hard moments—and some graphic detail when it serves the story—but always with restraint and purpose.
What You Can Expect
Here on the blog you’ll get weekly posts about world-building, magic systems, character arcs, maps, and insights from what I’m learning. I’ll share personal reflections, short stories, monster and character profiles, maybe sometimes reviews. Monthly newsletters will bring bonus content and updates. As I build an audience, I’ll also do serial novel releases and other extras for those who want more. For my full novels, I aim for two books per year.
