Art Break: Prayerie
A post of a painting I did just for fun and practice.

This is a quick art post. Just something I painted for fun and felt like sharing.
The piece shows a prairie at sunrise. Three old graves sit beneath a lone tree—simple wooden crosses made from rough boards, the kind that feel more practical than sentimental. Nothing ornate. Just markers left behind by someone who did the best they could with what they had.
Behind them, the sun is coming up over distant hills. Bright, colorful, almost hopeful. I liked the contrast—the quiet permanence of the graves against a morning that keeps moving whether anyone’s ready or not.
I don’t remember exactly where the image came from. I know I saw something like it in a western show years ago. Which one? Couldn’t tell you. It just stuck with me, apparently long enough to turn into a painting.
This wasn’t about polishing or perfecting anything. I just wanted to paint a scene, enjoy the process, and let it be what it was.
Quick update while I’m here: the book is getting close. I’m in the final stages of getting the business side lined up, and there’s one more read-through and proof pass to go. After that, it might finally be time to unleash it.
